“Dance like no one is watching” Great advice for life and great advice for writing a blog.
If you are thinking of writing a blog, I would have to say, “Write like no one is reading” ~ because reality is they probably aren’t. Or as Natalie Sisson ~ THE SUITCASE ENTREPRENEUR puts it “Get Over Yourself. There’s over 200 million blogs out there… so there is a good chance that no one, or not many will find your blog!”
When I wrapped my brain around that reality over 4 years ago, I actually found it very freeing. I started blogging in January 2008 when I embarked on a weight- loss journey. You will have to take my word for it… or if you were on that journey with me, you may remember “Believe08”. Those blogs are tucked away on SPARKPEOPLE. And to be honest I deleted many of them. I started in 2008… however I rarely ever blogged, it took me nearly a year to comfortably blog or to appreciate the benefit of my blog for my weightloss and healthy lifestyle SUCCESS. I was very intimidated by the whole concept.
However when I decided I would blog like no one was reading, I began lighten up. I wasn’t concerned with “likes”, or being nominated as inspiring, or people leaving comments. I wanted to write about my journey. I wanted to have something to look back on for times when I needed motivation or inspiration. For a long while, hardly anyone did read my blogs, and then THEY DID! I always felt honoured when people took time to read my blog and often thanked them that they lasted to the end of a blog. Some people even commented, they said “Way to Go!” and “You can do it” and other said “I struggle with that too” and some said “Thank you for sharing”.
Some of my Sparkfriends are still with me many years later. Some I have never met, but have gotten to know better through facebook and even via snail mail!
So, if you have a desire to dance… I mean blog, let me encourage you to start! Take a deep breath and hit PUBLISH for the first time! And if no one reads, that’s OK. And if lots of people read and you become an expert in your field and wildly rich ~ remember me.
Send me a note and let me know if you are starting a new blog, maybe a v-log, and if it’s under 500 words I’d love to read it! (Sorry I have a short attention span, and time restraints)… you will notice my blogs are pretty short! You can send me a link to longer ones, just no guarantees.
And let me say since I have 36 words left, if you have made it to the bottom of my short blog, I feel truly honoured! Thank you!
